About Silk Weights: mm Stands for ‘Momme’. Momme (pronounced mummy and abbreviated ‘mm’) is the standard unit of weight used with silk. The higher the momme the heavier the silk. An 8mm silk weighs about 1oz. per square yard.

  • 1mm = 4.3 grams per square meter
  • 1mm = 3.62 grams per square yard.
